The Role of Anatomy in
Artistic Training

This is the same material I presented at The Gnomon Workshop and for ConceptArt.org as INTRODUCTION TO ANATOMY FOR ARTISTS. We'll go through the drawings of George Bridgman to show how he simplified human anatomy into forms that master artists, such as Frank Frazetta, use to invent figures from imagination.

This course is not my seven-session Anatomy crash-course, though it does contain a few of the same images. It is 200 slides of mostly unique material, focusing on several master artists who could invent figures in any position from imagination, and explaining how they reached that level of mastery. We'll take time to draw, comparing anatomical plates to more developed figure drawings — it's a great way to learn, and it's inspiring to see the magic of how masters turn anatomy into form.
